Friday, December 23, 2005 Happy Holidays

I received a super holiday present from Holly @ Euro Reviews. She reviewed my book, Cadan's Cause, published by Venus Press.

Here's her review:

Marassa is a freelancer with her partner Walnik ferrying weapons to her cousin in his fight against the Concordance. When she crashes on Corella 9-C, she thinks it is an uninhabited planet. It is lush and beautiful, but not where she needs to be right now, especially when she finds a former high ranking Concordance officer living there. Cadan is legendary in the Concordance ranks and yet here he is living on this planet that would be a treasure to be plundered by the Concordance with only the Centaur for company fighting to keep his adopted home safe from those he used to fight for. As Marassa gets to know Cadan and the Centaurs, she is torn between completing her mission with Walnik or helping Cadan defend 9-C.
Walnik has choices of his own to make once he learns that although he is of mixed heritage and has been shunned his whole life, Cadan tells him of a planet full of others like him who not only know of him, but expect Walnik to someday arrive and rule as King. As loyalties are divided and inner desires explored, all 3 must make choices and sacrifices.
Cadan's Cause leads us into Mary Winter's imaginative world of centaurs, beautiful planets, rebellion and love. This action and sex packed story is captivating. You feel the love and angst of Cadan and Marassa as well as the sense of duty they feel. Protecting innocent, peace loving centaurs against huge odds knowing their chances are slim, both give their all to save this special species and discover an enduring love for each other. If you're a scifi fan who loves space battles and different species, you'll love this book.

I want to wish you and yours a super weekend, and if you celebrate any holidays, then Happy Holidays to you as well. If you travel, drive safe, and take care!

Wednesday, December 21, 2005 Feng Shui and the art of writing

I took a class the first week in December put on by the marvelous Passionate Ink group (which is the erotic romance chapter of RWA), and led by Bella Andre, who deserves to be sainted for the magic she's worked with my den. The class covered feng shui (which is an ancient art of creating good energy in your house) and the writer's space. Goddess knows I needed help. I have before pictures. They're horrid. And while I'm not done yet, it is amazing.

So, with the super talented Bella, I and several other students set out to make our writing areas more favorable to our energies. My chore -- move my huge corner desk into the opposite corner and figure out how to sit so I faced my window and the door (a position of power). Well, after tearing apart my den, I now have a new desk, a new desk chair, and am feeling the love. Within a day of rearranging my den, I am pleased to announce that Ellora's Cave has accepted my story Priestess of Desire for next year's Ellora's Cavemen anthologies, entitled Dreams of the Oasis. My story will be in volume 3, due out Sept 22.

Talk about freeing up your energy. I am much in debt to Bella and her wonderful class. Hope you all have a happy holiday.

Thursday, December 15, 2005 Time flies... oh my!

I just looked at when the last time I posted was, and whoops! I'm so sorry!!! I promise worst comes to worst the hunky guys of sci fi will return after the holidays. But hopefully sooner.

Marshmallow - (prior to 2002 - 12/15/05)

My guinea pig passed away today. I love all my pets, treat them all like family. Marshmallow was old for a guinea pig. I'd had her since 2002 at least, and I'm unsure how old she was then. I adopted her from Petco. She lived a long life, and a hard life. Sadly, in spite of my best attempts to get her home in a timely manner she developed heat stroke. Then, I over compensated in dropping her temperature, and we ran to the emergency vet clinic. My free guinea pig ended up costing me $300 in vet bills, and left her with neurological issues. She had a head tilt, but in spite of that lifed a full, happy life. She loved playing with her plastic keys and wallowing in hay. She explored my den in the confines of the little "kennel" I had for her, and loved being the center of attention.

I'll miss her, but I know she had the best care while she was on this earth, and she is now probably romping in thick, lush grass somewhere across the rainbow bridge.

On a happier note, I hope to have some good writing news to share within a few weeks.
